As part of his familiansation tour of prisons in the state, the Delta State Chief Judge, Hon Justice Smith on Monday 24th October, 2011 visited the Agbor prisons where he freed 38 inmates.
Welcoming the Chief Judge, the Controller of Prisons in charge of Agbor Prisons, Rev H.F. Imorhua thanked him for the visit which is his first since he became the Chief Justice of Delta State. He appreciated the state ministry of justice for donating a vehicle to the Agbor prison, and at the same time appealed to the CJ to use his good office to attract an ambulance to the prison to enable them take care of sock inmates.
Responding Hon Justice Smith described Agbors as peaceful and a clean place. He commended the management of the prison for the good job they are doing, just as he promised to take their request to the appropriate authority for necessary actions to be taken.
At the end of the exercise the C.J released 38 inmates of the Agbor prison who were on the awaiting trial list. Among those released was a 72 year old Obak Lawo Tobore. The C.J said the 38 released inmates have no case to answer, hence should not be detained anymore.
