It was a pitiable
scene to behold an 18 seater bus engulfed by fire at Umudein Street, Agbor, in
the early hours of Friday, 17th
February, 2012. Narrating the story of the
ugly incident, to newsmen, Mr. Chucks Ehiedu, the diver of the bus said that on
that fateful day, the vigilante group in the street called him out to join them
for night guard which he succumb and at about 4;00am in the morning he left
them and went back to his house to have some rest, in order to enable him go to
work, in the morning.
He said barely twenty
minutes, he entered his house, he heard
a shout. He then opened his door and find out that his bus was burning.
“Immediately we started pouring water on the bus in order to quench the fire
and as God may have it, the fire stopped, but before then alot of damages has
been done to it.
He told Ika
Weekly that before the ugly incident
took place, each time he packed his bus in his house at Umudein Street, before coming out the next day, the tire of
his bus will be been deflated.
Speaking further, he stated that one electrician close to his
house (name not given) said that at about 4:00am he held one Mr. Ewere, who is
the leader of the night guards the night his bus was
engulfed by fire.
According to him,’’ it
was later we discovered that Ewere and his group are the master minders of the
fire outbreak’’. He further said that this so-called Ewere has personally
threatened him and his father, boasting that he is going to deal with them.
As at the time of
filling this report, three the people suspected to have set fire on the bus,
including Ewere, have been arrested by Agbor police and investigation on the
issue is on-going. The police has promised to allow the law
to take its full course.
Mr. Chuks Ehiedu,
thereby called on well meaning individuals, corporate bodies, religious organizations,
the government of Delta State, to come to his aid and help him to get another
bus, with which to sustain himself and his family.
