. Several vehicles and casual
workers were drafted to the affected areas to ensure that the Operation Keep
Agbor Clean succeeds.
Besides
the unprecedented waste disposal in the metropolis, the interim council
administration has mounted about fifty metal waste collection bins at strategic
positions for residents to use in order to encourage them from indiscriminate
waste disposal which has remained a critical issue in the area.
According
to the acting HOD, (Department of Environment), Mr. John Alika, the new zeal to
keep the area clean, especially the metropolis is in line with the mandate of
the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, in view of the last flood
challenges. The mandate is expected to involve residents who are expected to be
partners with the local government authorities.
Mr. Alika,
while praising Engr. Andrew Obiazi , the Caretaker Committee Chairman, for his
resolve to ensure that Agbor is free from heaps of waste dropped
indiscriminately, advised other residents in the area to be patient as more
waste collection bins would be distributed within a very short time in managing
the environment.
He advised
residents to develop good environmental culture by distributing domestic waste
properly, warning that any person caught dropping wastes in unauthourised
places would be prosecuted accordingly.

residents who spoke to our reporter said that the distribution of waste
collection bins would ensure that the people change their unpatriotic attitude
of dumping waste indiscriminately. An
Okada rider, while praising the new leadership of the council, hinted that if funds were not made available
as and when required, the bins may overfull before they are evacuated thus,
exposing the citizens to health risks.
He appealed to residents to complement the efforts of government by
using the facilities.
