The Delta
State government has again reiterated its plan to close down private primary
and secondary schools operating in unconducive environments in Delta State.
The commissioner of Basic and
Secondary Education, Professor Patrick Muoboghare disclosed this at the weekend
during an interactive session with newsmen stated that the plan which is the
second phase of closure of schools after shutting down illegal ones is to
enforce standards in the educational system.
While justifying the closure of
662 illegal schools in the State out of
which 37 are in Ika Land, the
commissioner stated that the institutions were operating without approval and
were therefore, illegal, adding that owners of the illegal schools in their bid
to deceive parents and the public, indicate ,on their signboards “Government
Approved,” stressing that those wishing to partner with government in the
educational sector must meet the standard.
He urged the owners of the
closed down schools to note that the exercise was not meant to punish anybody
but a measure to enforce standards, adding that the government will re-open the
schools whenever their owners meet the basic requirements for operating private
schools.
