AGBOR (Ika Weekly) – Ika students have been strongly advised to see the need to identify with Ika’s cultural heritage.
This call was made by the provost of College of Education, Agbor Dr. E.U. Tibi last weekend when the national association of Ika students College of Education, Agbor celebrated Ika cultural day.
The provost appreciated the students present at the occasion and advised others who declined joining the association to stop shying away from their origin and embrace Ika culture.
He further appealed to them to be serious with their studies, live to be inspiring example to younger generations, so that they would benefit from their forethoughts and landmarks created by them and to adhere to the laws governing the citadel of learning so that when they leave, the fabrics of the institution would remain undamaged, adding that handwork is a necessary prelude to successful achievements and fulfillment in life.
The chairman of the occasion, Mr. E.N. Aniemeke addressing the students said Ika students should live to be emulated by other tribes because others are sojourners and their stay in Ika land is temporal unlike they that are Ika indigenes who owns the land.
Mr. Aniemeke added that it is expected that Ika’s in the institution beat the target of being the best candidate in their chosen field of endeavour, he asserted that it would be appalling for an Ika indigene to be listed when an atrocious act is committed, they should therefore ensure they are worthy ambassadors where ever they find themselves even after leaving the school.
Speaking with Ika Weekly the president of the association, Mr. Friday Odabi described the unique day as a day chosen by Ika students to display and celebrate Ika culture. He said the association is aimed at uniting Ika nation and that there are several benefits enjoyed by bonafide members, that belonging to the association not only create an avenue for knowing our people but also help in times of challenges, identify with them during marriages and pay courtesy visits when they are bereaved and therefore advised those disinclined to join to take advantage of this opportunity to come and register with the association.
Mr. Odabi however stated that the association is shortly funded and that they need a bus to enable them implement some of her objectives of visiting the less privileged, create awareness on HIV/AIDS Scourge, a permanent Secretariat among others, he further implored the school authority and other highly placed Ika indigenes in government and in diaspora to come to the aid of the association.
Conclusively, he thanked all the invited quests who amist their busy schedule found time to honour them especially the provost of the College Dr. E.U. Tibi for his care and concern towards the association.
