IKA WEEKLY – Tragedy struck the residents of Olegie, Igbanke on Sunday when a boy of 17, Odigie Achinike was shot on the thigh by an armed bandit, along Oligie/Mbiri Road.
The victim said that on the fateful day, he and his friend, Festus, were riding to the Mbiri River to wash their clothes, when they saw a man standing by the road adding that as they past him, they saw a group of thirty men few metres along the road.
He said that on sighting them, Festus, the Okada rider made a u–turn and as they were heading back to the village, the man who was standing by the roadside shot at them three times, which hit him at his thigh.
Achinike remarked that as they fell, the attacker collected their clothes together with the bucket with which they were going to the river, and took to his heels.
The Pastor of Winners Baptist Church, Oligie, Fidelis Eledu said the incident is just one attack too many, as armed bandits have turned Oligie bushes into a nightmare.
The victim said that he was rushed to the Central Hospital Agbor, for three days where they only tried to extract the bullets in his thigh.
He remarked that when his mother saw his condition, she arranged and took him to Ottah where he was treated and twenty-five bullets have been so far been removed from his thigh, which is now highly infested.
He is now receiving treatment at home under the instruction of the herbalist.
The mother of the victim, Mrs. Achinike has appealed for help from the government, at various levels, kind-hearted citizens and corporate organizations to come to her aid, as her son needs better treatment in order not to lose his limb.
