Umunede, Emuhu, Abavo, and Owa-Alidima communities in Delta State have commended member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Doris Uboh, for executing five water projects in the area.
The commissioning of the water projects at the weekend and presentation of science laboratory, hospital equipment valued at N100 million was done at Umunede and Agbor, respectively, by the state deputy governor, Professor Amos Utuama, assisted by other top government officials including the secretary to the state government, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa. Utuama in his speech described the gesture as commendable and worthy of emulation by other elected officials, describing the water projects as symbol of life to the people of the area.
Uboh, in her address, pointed out that the projects were self-sponsored in line with her campaign promises during the last general election.
She listed the projects as "five boreholes for five communities, laboratory equipment for 15 secondary schools and drugs for 15 healthcare centres. Each of the 26 wards in my constituency got at least one project." Uboh was optimistic that the projects would impact positively on the lives of the people of the area, adding, "the next phase of my efforts will focus on skill acquisition and wealth creation for the youths and women of Ika Federal Constituency, respectively.
"Through this initiative, the unemployed youths can be trained to acquire skills that will make them self-employed or employable. "I also hope to attract a micro finance house to enhance small and medium-scale enterprises for the hard working women of Ika Federal Constituency.
My focus on women is with a view to empower Ika women to encourage them to participate more in politics. "When established, it will go a long way in alleviating the poverty of the rural people that have no access to conventional financial houses."
