As is normal in the country’s political terrain, where winners are known even before elections are conducted, the forth coming 2011 general elections is beginning to witness same pattern, as the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, Festus Iwerebor, and Christian Okpambor have been declared winners in an election yet to be conducted.
The declaration was made by a prominent Peoples Democratic Party, Chieftain in Ika North-East Local Government Area, Chief Humphrey Iwerebor during a gathering of PDP faithful at his residence along Morka Street, Boji-Boji, Owa.
The man who is popularly known as Ogidi of Africa said he was optimistic of the resounding success for Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, whom he described as an epitome of humility and a great achiever. He therefore predicted that the governor will emerge victorious in the 2011 gubernatorial polls. He equally predicted victory for the executive chairman of Ika North Local Government Council, Hon Festus Iwerebor, saying the youngman has done well as council chairman, as well as Mr. Christian Okpambor and Dr. Cairo Ojougboh.
Chief Iwerebor who expressed happiness over the large turn out of party faithful at the meeting, commended Mr. Christian Okpambor for touching the lives of people even before gaining political position and promised to continue to support the U.S. based Ika son, who is the chairman of Uduaghan Vision in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A.
He also urged elective office seekers to put the interests of the people ahead and beyond their personal interest to guarantee their success in the political process adding that there was more to politics than the mere acquisition of wealth. He equally noted that there was the need for political office holders to realize that they owe so much to the people at whose instance they are occupying their various offices. He stressed that the time has come for politicians to see the interest of the masses as of paramount interest, adding that a good politician, whose watch word is integrity, does not need to cajole the people to support him or her when he or she has set an enviable records.
Also addressing the party loyalists, Mr. Christian Okpambor praised women for being at the forefront in the struggle for change, commending them for their consistency and resolute determination to contribute to bringing political change in the LGA. “Women are always more in any political gathering because they are more concerned with their families and the society at large” he observed.
Mr. Okpambor who said he has always been concerned about the plight of his people stated that he was doing what he was doing because according to him “it is good to champion a cause that will bring relief to the people. I am not doing what I am doing because I am very wealthy but because I feel concerned about the poor condition of my people who have been neglected by those who were supposed to make life bearable for them. My political voyage is to salvage our people. It is to change the political landscape. I have not done any contract from government. All I am spending is my hard-earned money and I am ready to do more for the well-being of my people. We will support Uduaghan’s administration so that we can get democracy dividends. We are very optimistic that there will be credible elections in 2011 which will usher in credible and genuine people into government, at all levels” he stated.
Some of those at the meeting include Chief (Mrs.) Okoh, Mr. Rita Balogun, Sabastine Nwajei, among many others.
