The Delta State Government is to launch a Comprehensive School Health Programme (DSCHP) in all schools in the Local Government Areas of the state.
The State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency are partnering to realize the State Government Agenda of “Relevant Health and Education Policies” as encapsulated in the SMART Agenda.
Barr. Chiedu Ebie, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Delta State, gave the assurance recently, when he received an Advocacy, the Chairman and officials of the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency.
He commended the Agency for the laudable programme, which he noted would improve the health status of school children in the state.
Continuing, he promised that the ministry would work with the Chief Inspectors of Education in the field offices to sensitize school heads and parents, on the need to embrace the programme.
Earlier in her address, Dr. (Mrs.) Isioma Okobah, Chairman, Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, said the Advocacy’s visit was to seek the support of the Education Ministry, so that the objective of the Delta State Comprehensive School Health Programme can be achieved.
She stated that the Comprehensive School Health Programme, which has the theme, “No Child Should be Left Behind”, is aimed at the provision promotive, preventive and curative health services to school children. Dr. (Mrs.) Okobah noted that the Comprehensive School Health Programme is being adapted in furtherance of the State Governor’s Health for all Deltans initiative.
She also noted that the DSCHP will address the physical, mental, emotional, social dimensions of health of the people and provide nutritious meals and health services to all Primary and Secondary Schools in Delta State as the Agency, through the Health Department in the Local Government Areas will deploy nurses to oversee the programme.
Dr. (Mrs.) Isioma Okobah, during the visit congratulated Barr Chiedu Ebie, on his emergence as the best commissioner in Delta State, enjoining him to continue in advancing the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
