A man in one of
the communities in Ika North east local government area was last week set
ablaze following an allegation that he stole huge sum of money from the palace.

According to a
community leader who spoke with Ika Weekly on grounds of anonymity, “the money
which was said to be stolen from the palace was kept by the palace secretary.
The secretary who quickly discovered the money missing mounted pressure on the
palace guards. The source further revealed that the alleged criminal denied
having any knowledge of money kept in the palace”. The suspect body was burnt
by the community task after he has confessed. In his confession, he said he
used his own share of the money to buy electronics. The suspect was said to
have implicated other two men.

Ika weekly learnt
that the treatment which the community task force meted on the accused was
inhumane as two other guards who are connected to the same crime were
vindicated. It was also disclosed that the suspect was beaten to pulp before he
was set ablaze.

At the time of
filing this report, the suspect was said to be lying at home writhing in pains.

Ika Weekly
further gathered that the ruler of the community where the incident took place
said he had no hand in the burning of the suspect as he has paid a visit to the
victim.
