The Obi of Abavo kingdom, in Ika South Local Government
Area, His Royal Majesty, Uche Irenuma has vowed not to keep quiet until Pan
Ocean Oil Company do the right thing by building their flow station at
Obiayima, Abavo, the community where oil was discovered in commercial
quantities. The monarch disclosed that his community is peaceful and ready to
host the oil company, hence, the company should work with the initial agreement
with the community which stipulated that siting of the flow station would be at
Obiayima Abavo and no where else in Ika land.
The traditional ruler, who made the vow at his royal
palace, while addressing enlarged gathering of his subjects during the week
said that the siting of the OPL 275 flow station is the birth right of Abavo
people, stressing that there is nothing on earth that is going to make them to
sell it to another community whether in or outside Ika land.
In his words, Abavo people will not sell their birth
right for a pot of porridge. Owa Alidinma, a community without oil and gas
deposits can never serve as a flow station or a gathering point for Abavo
kingdom numerous oil wells. This is our position and it is not negotiable. I am
therefore calling on the Delta State House of Assembly, Ministry of Oil and
Gas, Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Federal Character Commission and
other relevant government agencies to quickly intervene as Abavo people will
never allow Pan Ocean to move the flow station outside their land.
