ANIOMA WATCH – An aspirant for the Delta State House of Assembly to represent Ika North East Local Government Area, Mr. Victor Odiase, has promised to ensure that if elected his constituency projects would be determined by the people. The graduate of Mathematics/Statistics from Enugu State University made this known shortly after he declared to contest for the position at the Secretariat of P.D.P in his local government area recently.
‘‘Any project the people who should benefit from have no input serves no useful purpose. When elected, I will at all times allow the people to tell me what their needs are and when these requests are provided, the people are happy. I will not force any constituency projects on them. I will truly be their humble servant," he promised.
The former state chairman of Delta Progressive Congress, a political association, said when voted he would continue to maintain cordial relationship with the people, especially the youths whom he said are his greatest source of inspiration and support. He also promised to extend due respect to the traditional rulers.
He promised not only to attract projects to his constituency but develop a channel for two-way communication through which issues can be evaluated in the interest of the people.
‘‘In order to adequately be in constant touch with my people, I will at intervals hold enlarged meetings, aside other various communication approaches. I have over the years been involved in community development. I have always identified with needs and aspirations of my people. I am young, educated, and with fervour to serve. I am a bridge builder," he confessed.
The Owa-Alero born politician said his electioneering promises to his people are products of article 7(C) of the manifesto of P.D.P, which borders on dependable representation, integrity, accessibility, unity and development. He said having been an active member of the defunct Social Democratic Party (S.D P), Grassroots Democratic Movement (G.DM), and now P.D.P, he has acquired enough experience needed for effective representation.
‘‘My mission to serve is borne out of inner conviction that I can deliver with minimal effort the needs of my people. My desire to seek the support of my people to represent them is unwavering. I am convinced that I will not disappoint them neither will I waste the mandate. I have over the years proven my loyalty and commitment to the party leadership and I have benefited from the wise counselling of my party leaders. And I hope my great party men and women will make me the messenger who is willing to serve diligently’’, he said.
Mr Odiase, who was a chairmanship aspirant in 2006/2008 but was prevailed on to withdraw for the incumbent chairman, promised to invest in the education of the youths, train others who cannot go to school on skills to become self reliant, as well as sourcing for soft loans and grants for market women and peasant farmers.
