The Vigilante group in Umunede, Ika North East Local
Government Area, has apprehended a middle aged man, Mr. Peter Iduh along old
Ekwuoma / Umunede road while dispossessing passer-by of their hard earned money
and other belongings at gun point.
The incident which occurred on the 7th of
October 2011 brought surprise on the faces of the Umunede kingdom. The suspect
Mr. Iduh hails from Idumu Ile quarter Umunede.
Mr. Peter Iduh on interrogation by the vigilante group
disclosed that the weapon which he used was given to him by a man who resides
at Mbiri community adding that he was willing to take them to the place for
confirmation.
The Chairman, Umunede Vigilante group, Mr. James
Akumazi Aka “Spoke” told Ika Weekly that the suspect, Mr. Peter Iduh has been
terrorizing the people of Umunede and environs. He said that anything an
individuals does in this world it has a rewards for either good or bad, saying that Mr. Iduh has
finally met his waterloo. Mr. Akumazi urged his vigilante group to continue in
their self sacrifices in ensuring peace and security of all those living in
Umunede. He also expressed profound gratitude to H.R.M. Dr. Ezeagwu Ezewali
Agadagidi 1, the Obi of Umunede kingdom for his supports towards the group to
function effectively.
He charged the people to always remain focused and to
always alert the group concerning individuals with suspected motives.
The police in the community, who took over the matter
from the vigilante group, applauded the good work of the Umunede vigilante and
urged them to keep up with their good work.
Mr. Peter Iduh who is currently in police custody is
expected in no distance time to appear in court for prosecution.
However, persons who saw the hoodlum, noted that the
crime rate in Umunede has reduced, due to the efforts of the hardworking
vigilante in assisting the police towards curbing criminal activities is the
area.
