A new co-operative society, Ihie Onyearu Wu Ugboe Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society, Umunede has been registered in accordance with section 5 (1) of the Nigeria Co-operative Societies Decree No. 90 of 1993,
Making this known to newsmen at Umunede, the Chairman of the Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society, Umunede, Dr. Godwin C. Okobia, charged school leavers and corporate bodies in Delta State to form co-operative societies with a view to enhancing their economic and social development in the society.
Dr. Okobia said the call has become necessary because co-operative society is the only means through which peasant farmers and small-scale businessmen and women can get financial assistance from the government.
He appealed to corporate bodies, school leavers and non-governmental organizations to form co-operative societies, stressing that that would help to checkmate youth restiveness and cult activities, which has plagued the present Nigerian society.
Dr. Okobia, who is a renowned accountant, expressed gratitude to the Director of Co-operative Societies, Delta State, Mr. A. E. Enebeli for giving prompt attention in approving the registration of the co-operative society.
Members of the executive of the Co-operative Society include, Dr. Godwin C. Okobia, Chairman, Chief J. Egobudike, Vice Chairman, Mr. D. D. Dede (JP), Patron, Madam F. Morka, Patroness, Mr. Patrick Ekwemuka, General Secretary, and Mr. Sylvester Nwaedozie, Financial Secretary.
Others are Chief Sunny Orumgbe, Adviser, Chief E. E. Nwokoro, Adviser, Madam Lizzy Arimichie, Treasurer, and Honourable Angela Nwabuokwu, Public Relations Officer.
