An illustrious Ika son, Wilfred Isioma Ukpere has been
promoted from Associate Professor to Professor at the University of
Johannesburg South Africa. According to school source he was promoted on the
grounds of his scholarly achievement; his contribution t his discipline and to
the stature of the faculty of Management’s Department of Industrial Psychology
and People Management.
Prof Ukpere contributes a strong theoretical approach
in his research with most of his output centred on critiquing the impact of
capitalism in the post cold war era, notably in the context of emerging
economies. His referees consider him as an established researcher in the field
of people management and development, notably with the domain of globalization
and its impact on human resources management. Wilfred has also successfully
supervised four Master’s studies and co-supervised a doctoral candidate.
He currently serves as Editor in Chief of two major
Journals and is on the editorial ward of several ISI and IBSS journals,
including the International Journal of Social Economics. Wilfred acts as a
reviewer of leading journals (national and international) in the field of globalization,
organizational behavior, employment relations and human resources.
In promoting his academic discipline, Prof Ukpere has
delivered an additional eight non-accredited conference papers with the review
period and one poster presentation in the United Kingdom (UK). He demonstrates
the ability to secure a vital partnership most responsibly with local and
international research collaborators notably in India and in Northern Africa.
He serves in the research committee of the Human Resources Research Initiative
of South Africa Board of People Practices. He also acts as an external examiner
of post graduates and as external moderator for several universities.
According to the email sent to Ika Weekly by the
Executive Dean, Faculty of Management, University of Johannesburg, Mr. Daniel,
Prof Ukpere has demonstrated the ability to lead and manage UG and PG
programmes as a previous Head of Department: Entrepreneurship and Business
Management. He demonstrates a keen sense of responsibility towards his students
and his contribution to the development of young academics through mentorship
is appreciated.
