A political association, Ika South Democratic League (IDL), has vowed to ensure that only credible people, with track record of service delivery, would be supported to represent the people in both elective and appointive positions. The group said the absence of any meaningful development was as a result of unworthy representation, adding that in 2011 no form of intimidation or coercion would sway the people to elect people with manifest selfish tendency.
The group said it received with elation the news that Hon B.I.O. Obuh has offered to contest election into the Federal House of Representatives.
According to a statement signed by the co-ordinator of the group, Mr. Friday Kelubia, Hon Obuh is the most appropriate aspirant that will deliver on the needs and aspirantions of the people. This position, according to the group, emanated from the wealth of experience Hon Obuh has garnered over the years, in addition to his intellectual depth.
The secretary of the league, Mr. Samson Onwukamadu, said the time had come for every Ika South person, including those in the Diaspora, to rally round home-based aspirants instead of the foreign ones who are not well grounded in political bargains and lobbying to bring development to the people.
Hon B.T.O. Owah, a former councilor and now the co-ordinator of the league in ward five, said every effort should be made to ensure that only credible people are voted into positions of trust. He said the backwardness in the local government area should be a source of worry to everybody.
The league commended the chairman of Ika South Local Government Council, Hon Hilary Ibude, on the asphalt tarring of Edike Street.
Other executive members of the group include Mr. Emeke Okoh, Ojebor Otasowie, Okafor Agholor, Anthony Akpenyi, Ofume Lucky, Sunny Okonye, Ighade Friday, Anthony Isede and Israel Young.
