Ika North East Local Government Council on Wednesday commissioned three buildings renovated by the Transition committee.
Commissioning the buildings, His Excellency, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan who was represented by Honourable Commissioner, Directorate of Local Government Affairs, Chief Tony Nwaka, said the present administration has remained focused on its three point agenda of peace and security, physical infrastructure and Human capital development. He added that physical infrastructural development is not only predicated on new projects but also encompasses a conscious maintenance of existing ones.
He commended the chairman, Dame Patience N. Iyasere, for her initiative and wisdom in judiciously applying the funds of the council to the project within the short span of her administration, adding that her singular action has justified the government’s insistence that credible persons must be appointed as Chairmen of Local Government Councils in Delta State.
He therefore enjoined all sons and daughters of Ika North East Local Government Area to continue to co-operate with members of the transition committee and by extension Delta State so that the dividends of democracy can continually be enjoyed.
The Chairman, Dame P.N. Iyasere in her address expressed heart felt gratitude to his excellency Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan for his concern to the development of Ika North East Local Government Area.
She disclosed that the secretariat premises was in a deplorable state with dilapidated buildings and blown off roofs ravaged by rainstorm, and felt challenged to actualize one of the three point agenda of physical infrastructure and human development.
Dame Iyasere revealed that the council has equally embarked on other projects including painting of fence and flags at strategic positions, regular sanitation exercise, payment of staff salaries up to date, light and security.
She further appealed to the government to release more funds and to complete on-going projects in the Local Government Area, and prayed God to give them a sense of direction in governing the state.
The event was graced by a host of dignitaries including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Hon. Prince Sam Obi, Majority whip Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Lawrence Osiegbu, Commissioner for Environment, Hon Chuks Emuebie, caretaker committee Chairman, Ika South LGA, Dr. E.U.
