The event
which was witnessed by the Peoples Democracy Party leaders and members in the
ward took place at the councilor’s constituency office at No 182 Obi Ikenchuku
road, Ime-Obi, Ika South Local Government Area.
Addressing
the party faithfuls and people of the ward before the distribution of the
exercise books, Hon. Igumbor noted that it was constitionally mandatory for
every legislator, from the local to the national levels to have a constituency
office, where the people they represent can reach them. He observed that all
complaints and requests of members of the constituency are channeled to a
legislator through his constituency office, as everybody cannot have the
opportunity to reach their representative individually. “I regard a
constituency office as very virtal in any democratic set up. It is an avenue
for the people to reach me if they have any complaint or request to make” he
emphasized.
The
honourable councilor while reiterating his commitment to a purposeful and
result-oriented representation of the people of ward 2, disclosed that
caterpillars and budozers from the LGA will soon be mobilized to the ward to
have all the roads graded, so as to make them motorable. He encouraged the
different communities in the ward to always communicate their needs to him
through his office, as the mandate given to him was to represent their interest.
He promised to continue to identify with the people as a mark of appreciation
for their support since he was elected into office, even as he called for
continued support to enable him to do more.
Hon.
Igumbor while commending members and leaders of the PDP in the ward for their
support, praised what he called, the exemplary leadership qualities of Hon.
Hilary Ibude, whom he stressed has done well in improving the infrastructural
base of Ika South Local Government Area.
Some of
the leaders who spoke at the ceremony include Chief Sunny Iyawa, Dein Yem of
Agbor Kingdom who lauded the councilor for putting in place, a constituency
office, which he stated was a mark of true representation of the people of ward
2. He said that it was surprising to see a councilor having a constituency
office through which his people can reach him whenever the need arises. He also
commended him for the book donation and other things he has done, saying it was
an example that should be emulated by other councilors in Ika South.
Other
leaders who spoke expressed happiness and satisfaction over what they said was
a positive development in ward 2 since Hon. Igumbor became the councilor
representing the area, adding that the law-maker has performed creditably well.
About 300
copies of exercise books were later distributed to children who were admonished
to make good use of the books.
Some
of the people present at the event include Mr. Julius Mahiagu, Mr. Nduka Alika,
youth leader, Ika South PDP, Mr. Emeka Okoh, Deputy Chairman, Mrs. Eunice
Okwuabua, Woman Leader, Sunny Ibude, CSO to Ika South Council Chairman, Mr.
F.C. Agbormah and Comrade Franklin Onyenenue, Member, Youth Development
Committee, Delta State among others.
