HON. ELURO DECLARES FOR CHAIRMANSHIP OF IKA NORT EAST – SAYS HIS GOVT. WILL BE GOVT. OF THE PEOPLE

Hon. Eluro who spoke to Ika Weekly in an
exclusive interview on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 said he was forced to make
himself available to arrest what he described as the systematic decay at the
council level, which he pointed out has caged the people of the area into
perpetual political servitude He   opined
that time has come to extricate the people of Ika North East from what he
referred to as “the political stranglehold to which our people have been
subjected to by a carefully orchestrated political arrangement that is being
supervised by a family. We are tired of father and son political hegemony”

Hon Eluro who was three time councilor, emeritus,
argued that the time has come for the people
of Ika North East to take their destiny
in their own hands by charting a new political order, devoid of
deception and sycophancy, for themselves. He noted that the LGA was created for
the benefit of all and not for a few persons who believe that it is in their
birth right to always chose for the people. He said that it was based on the
poor prevailing political situation that he is making himself available for the
position of the executive chairman of Ika North East Local Government Council,
which he claim has been hijacked by a family he refused to mention.

“Having been a three time councillor, I believe that
the next level is chairmanship where I will have wider opportunities to empower
my people. It is a call. God has called me to redeem my people from long years
of political servitude. I am offering myself as a sacrificial lamb to the
people of Ika N/E as chairman come 2011, under the platform of the Peoples
Democratic Party to which I belong. I am promising that my government is going
to be a people’s government, without discrimination. I am going to run an open
door administration where the dividends of democracy will get to everybody in
the LGA. Government money will be used to work and empower the people. We will
give priority attention to employment so that the crime rate in Ika N/E will
reduce drastically. I will not let my people down. My administration will be a
government of transparency and accountably. I therefore urge Ika North East
people to close wisely as voting for me Hon. Eluro, will be making the   right choice. People should judge me based
on my past records and achievements which are all there for all to see and
access. I believe I have what it takes to make a change.”

Hon. Eluro who is a one time Supervisory Councilor for
Works and later for Environment said that he will not engage in stealing the
people’s money as is currently happening adding that he will not use his
position to oil his selfish interest. “My people of Ika North East, the time
has come for us to wake up from our political inertia and foolishness and claim
what rightly belongs to us. We are tired of empowerment that consist of giving
out money and generators (I better pass my neighbour). The people need tangible
empowerment.”

The chairmanship aspirant promised to give out his
salary, if elected, to orphanages, adding that we shall overcome the many
challenges through concerted effort.” He therefore called on the people of Ika
North East to embrace the true structure of the PDP in the LGA which he said is
headed by Chief Godwin Ogadi (Omonla), who he noted is recognized both at the
local, state and federal levels. He also called on the state PDP chairman,
Chief Peter Nwaoboshi and the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to
disregard and discountenance those he said are causing division in the LGA, as
a way of maintaining their stranglehold on the people.

Hon. Eluro used the medium to commend Ika North East
PDP chairman, Chief Godwin Ogadi, assuring him of his loyalty to the party
structure, the SSG, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, whom he referred to as the grand master
of Delta politics, for the wonderful job he is doing that has seen a lot of
people being empowered, Mr. Christian Okpambor whom he described as a great
philanthropist, and thanked him particularly for the water borehole he donated
to the police station at Owa-Oyibu. He prayed that God will continue to grant
them the wisdom and long life to continue to do more. He thanked the LGA party
chairman and his executive both at LGA and wards levels and promised that he
will not let the party and the people down, if voted into the office of the
executive chairman of Ika North East Local Government council.
